The Atlas — every road we've charted
The Atlas is a live picture of where TripCaptain has read the weather, and everywhere it still could. Every country on Earth is drawn on the map, because road weather can be read on any road anywhere — the unlit regions are simply the ones nobody has charted yet.
The board tracks three figures: the total distance analysed across every route planned with TripCaptain, the number of driving hazards spotted along those routes, and how many North American states and provinces have been charted out of the sixty-four that exist. The figures refresh throughout the day as new trips are analysed.
What "charted" means
A region counts as charted once at least one route has been analysed passing through it. That analysis reads the forecast along the whole route, hour by hour, at the times a driver would actually be at each point — not a single forecast for a single city.
Charted regions glow on the map. Everywhere else stays dark, which is the invitation: be the first to chart a region and it lights up for everyone who visits afterwards.
Hazards spotted along the way
Thirteen kinds of driving hazard are detected along a route: black ice, dense fog, heavy snow, high wind, flooding, extreme heat, freezing rain, thunderstorms, dust storms, smoke and haze, tornadoes, squalls, and driver fatigue. The Atlas counts every hazard found across every route analysed, and attributes each one to the region where it was found.
That attribution is what makes the map worth reading. It shows where hazardous driving conditions actually cluster, rather than a single national number that hides the pattern.
Coverage: worldwide and North American
Weather-derived hazards are read on any road in the world. The detection works from forecast conditions — temperature, precipitation, visibility, wind, and the internationally standardised weather codes that describe them — so a mountain pass in the Pyrenees is analysed the same way as one in Colorado.
Official road-agency overlays, such as government weather alerts and reported road work, currently cover the United States and Canada. A route outside North America still receives full weather-hazard analysis; it simply has no government alert layer on top.
Most-travelled corridors
The Atlas also lists the routes that the most drivers have planned. A corridor only appears once enough separate captains have driven it, so the list reflects genuinely popular routes rather than any one person's travel pattern.
Still uncharted
Eighteen or so North American regions are typically still waiting for their first analysed trip at any given time. Each one is listed on the page with a link that starts planning a route through it. Charting a region takes one trip.

Planning a trip takes an origin, a destination, and a departure time. TripCaptain reads the weather along the whole route at the hours you would be driving it, flags the hazards, and suggests when to leave to avoid the worst of them.
