How TripCaptain Detects Black Ice Before You Hit It

Black ice is one of the most dangerous driving hazards because it's nearly invisible. Standard weather apps show temperature but don't tell you when moisture, temperature, and road conditions combine to create black ice along your specific route.

TripCaptain's hazard detection engine monitors temperature, humidity, precipitation, and dew point for every stop along your route. When conditions favor black ice formation (temperatures between -10°C and 3°C with moisture present), the system flags it with severity-appropriate warnings.

Vehicle type matters: motorcycles always receive DANGER-level black ice alerts, while high-profile vehicles like trucks and RVs face elevated severity due to stopping distance and stability concerns.
